About the Amazon Basin Project

The main objective of the Project is to implement the Strategic Actions Program (PAE), strengthening Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at national and regional levels, improving the capacities of Amazonian communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change, systematizing and generating relevant information for decision making. In addition, the project will bring ecological, social and economic benefits, contributing to Amazonian countries achieving their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other targets of the multilateral agenda.

The Amazon Basin Project is implemented under four components: 1) Innovative governance model for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM); 2) Building community resilience and protecting aquatic ecosystems to cope with the effects of climate variability and change; 3) Integrated environmental monitoring based on indicators and reporting in response to indicators of relevant International Conventions and Agreements; and 4) Integrated model for monitoring, evaluating and communicating the progress of the overall implementation of the Strategic Actions Program – Amazon SAP.
