The course is offered by the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO), through the Amazon Basin Project – Implementation of the SAP, in partnership with Brazil’s National Water Agency (ANA). Divided into six modules, the program includes activities and resources designed to provide innovative theoretical and practical tools for integrating the gender approach into integrated water resources management policies, plans, programs and projects in the Amazon Basin.

Course Structure

  • Module 1 – Introduction: This module aims to provide a general introduction to gender mainstreaming and tools for analyzing the incorporation of this perspective in policies, plans, programs, and projects. This module first addresses the context and then analyzes strategies and tools.
  • Module 2 – Diagnosis Phase: In this module, we will first analyze why the project’s diagnosis phase is important. Then we will review some tools and conduct a practical exercise.
  • Module 3 – Design Phase: In this module, we will first analyze what the design or formulation phase of a project involves. Then we will learn how to use agile methodology techniques such as Design Thinking to design a project.
  • Module 4 – Implementation Phase: In this module, we will explore tools to implement gender-focused projects, presenting some tools from agile methodologies that can help us carry out project execution.
  • Module 5 – Monitoring and Evaluation Phase: In this module, we will address the importance of this phase and the tools that can assist us in this process.
  • Module 6 – Conclusion: In this module, we will conduct a knowledge assessment before issuing the certificate.

Objectives

General Objective

To provide innovative theoretical and practical tools for mainstreaming the gender approach in policies, plans, programs, and projects for integrated water resources management in the Amazon Basin.

Specific Objectives

  • Raise awareness about the importance of integrating the gender perspective in water resource management.
  • Provide practical tools for designing and managing projects.
  • Present tools to integrate the gender perspective in the phases of diagnosis/analysis, formulation/design, implementation/execution, and monitoring/evaluation of projects.
  • Provide practical skills to incorporate the gender perspective in each phase of the project.

Methodology

Asynchronous, self-managed course. This study format promotes individualized and autonomous learning, so special attention to time management is recommended when organizing studies to ensure completion within the maximum timeframe.

Evaluation Criteria

Although this course is free, it is necessary to complete the activities and achieve a minimum score percentage to receive the Certificate of Participation.

Target Audience

Operators of plans, programs, and projects within the framework of the Strategic Action Program (SAP), public officials, NGO collaborators, and international cooperation agents, as well as people who work and live in territories belonging to the Amazon Basin, or anyone who wishes to obtain theoretical and practical tools to incorporate the gender perspective throughout the project lifecycle.
